That's total crap! I can't believe they did that. I would not be surprised to learn if it was a main cable channel - I guess Comedy Central didn't get to it first.
Comedy Central now airs a British cartoon show (Channel 4's Bob and Margaret), and they didn't change a thing. An article I read about the show earlier before it came out indicated that Comedy Central was fearful that because they weren't going to change anything, Americans wouldn't understand some of the humor, and Bob and Margaret wouldn't do well in this country. (Not to mention the fact that Americans wouldn't understand Margaret's job - a chiropodist - because Americans would call her a podiatrist.) However, recent ratings indicate that the show is actually doing quite well, WITHOUT any Americanizations.
What would Monty Python be like if they were forced to use American idioms and catchy phrases? Ahhh...just another trashy reason to suppress this damn imperialism we keep pushing on other countries and their programming.
