OK, you have a good relationship, most of the time, except when something happens that is clearly your partner's fault. A normal person would say, 'Oh, god, I'm sorry! Did I injure you? I'm sorry, that will never happen again. I'll be more careful.'
Instead, as you're standing there, clutching your injury and crying, that person says, 'What happened? I don't see how that could have happened. It wasn't my fault! Why was your finger/foot/ankle/head there? Stop crying!'
Doesn't that seem less than compassionate? So bah on that.
