today
today i must understand
the meaning of 'forever'
tomorrow i will contemplate
the commonplace of 'never'
yesterday i saw the final
coming of your 'maybe'
next saturday i'll realize
the contradiction of 'oh baby'
on thursday morning you awoke
and rolled into next monday
and i was mourning of the loss
of understanding 'some day'
i felt the ease of slipping by
the thought of knowing 'surely'
but as the altar nears again
i dabble into 'purely'
what could be perfectly amiss
when sunday must come swifter
but oh, alas, i find 'i do'
to be a thoughtless drifter
