i
shall never forget the day
the day i walked back to the place;
the steel sky was falling, heaven, it opened
wearing my heart on my face;
the pipe blue sky so cluttered with swabs
my mind so farsically sound;
coursing and coursing i opened the vault
and examined the treasure i'd found;
the eyes, the portrait, it harkened a bell
that sounded along distant road;
scraping the paint from the top of the wall
struggling, mourning, the load;
it was everything that i'd remembered
everything that i held dear;
carefully cutting the pieces away
it had been my mind i'd found here.
